Collecting these little guys is one of my favourite things to do in-game. Well, except for certain parts of Baa’l… you know the ones I’m talking about. This is a compilation of all the mysterious or secret battle pets available to collect in World of Warcraft. Thanks to the Warcraft Secrets community for solving many of these.
Terky
Terky is as shy as she is adorable, preferring the company of close friends over new ones.
Terky is a murloc battle pet located in a secret cave in Borean Tundra. He hatches from the White Murloc Egg. This model was originally only available to Taiwanese players. For more info, check out the guide.
Taptaf
Taptaf is loyal beyond a doubt, as long as food is provided.
One of my favourite things during each beta is exploring new zones so I was excited to stumble across the location of Taptaf in Drustvar. Soon after I posted my video, I received a congratulatory msg and note about how the pet and related NPC came about. For a guide and location, check out my video.
Wicker Pup
She loves tummy rubs. Just watch out for splinters.
Before you can rebuild the Wicker Pup, you must first find four body parts looted from several treasures in Drustvar (see video).
- Bespelled Chest contains the Spooky Incantation
- Enchanted Chest contains the Wolf Pup Spine
- Hexed Chest contains the Bundle of Wicker Sticks
- Ensorcelled Chest contains the Miniature Stag Skull
Uuna
Uuna was found bound to an Ur’zul, and was released into the Shadowlands, where she wandered in the utter darkness.
Uuna is a non-combat pet looted from the rare The Many-Faced Devourer. You need to collect several bones before you can summon the rare, which can be looted once per day.
- Call of the Devourer drops from mobs around the Scavenger’s Boneyard (55, 39)
- Ur’zul Bone – next to the Altar (50, 56)
- Imp Bone – inside the imp cave (entrance at 65, 26)
- Fiend Bone – next to the black pillar (left side of trap at 52, 35)
After collecting these items go to 54, 39 and click on the Bone Effigy in the Scavenger’s Boneyard to summon The Many-Faced Devourer.
Baa’l
Not much is known about this otherworldly minion.
To collect Baa’l, you first need to upgrade Uuna’s model by locating her doll, wand and flower crown. For the complete guide, check out my Saving Uuna post.
Squirky
During a special time of year, a secretive clan of murlocs often sends young tadpoles out to explore, adventure, and begin their tale.
Squirky is located on a small island in the Great Sea, off the coast of Azsuna. (see video)
Sun Darter Hatchling
This unique species of faerie dragon is not usually found on Azeroth.
The Sun Darter Hatchling is rewarded after solving several riddles enabling you to pass through various barriers inside the Cave of Consumption. Twelve items are needed – most can be bought from the AH or made by players (see video guide).
Bumbles
Bumbles may not have been the largest bee of the millions within the hive, but that doesn’t mean he can’t grow into a champion.
Bumbles the Bee is rewarded from an Alliance-only achievement – Let’s Bee Friends which includes you feeding Bumbles in Stormsong Valley the Mildenhall Growth Formula for seven days (see video guide).
Jenafur
This cat is known for her lies, ignore her sweet meows.
Amara’s lost cat Jenafur was the longest-running secret until it was solved almost a year later. It involves a trip to Karazhan, some music and enticing her with some food. Thanks to the Warcraft Secrets community and Paul on Reddit who solved the final piece of the puzzle.
Glimr
A wandering adventurer saved a small band of murlocs that had lost their homes, and a glimmer of hope was born.
Glimr is a purple secret murloc pet located in Grizzly Hills on the south-eastern part of Northrend. The short questline starts by looting a scale (18, 88) in the Venture Bay area of Grizzly Hills. Helping out the Glimmerfin tribe rewards you with Glimr (see video guide).
Gurgl
New species of murloc are discovered around Azeroth all the time, owing to their invasive nature and varied diet.
Technically Gurgl isn’t a secret pet but seemed fitting to include him with these other murlocs. To collect Gurgl, you need to complete a short questline that starts with Breanni in the Legion version of Dalaran. Before long you’ll be rescuing this low-rez murloc from the Violetsail Pirates in the uninstanced version of the Eye of Azshara zone. (see video guide)
Snowclaw Cub
An adult Snowclaw can rattle the very trees with its roar. A cub can rattle one of the smaller branches.
To collect the cub, you need to locate the Primal Bear Cub (67, 18) in the Azure Span. It’s located between Theron’s Watch and Rhonin’s Shield flight points in the northeastern part of the zone. You will need to complete a few steps beforehand otherwise the little cub will keep running away. (see video guide)
Bugbiter Tortoise
This turtle eats bugs, as you’d expect from its name, but you wouldn’t believe how large the bugs are.
This pet is tied to Cymre Brightlade’s world quest Brightblade’s Bones so you may have to wait a while to see her in-game. Hopefully, it won’t take a month or more to see her each time. (see video guide)
If either pet is missing from the journal, you can use /summonpet Bugbiter Tortoise or Snowclaw Cub to summon manually.
Phoenix Wishwing
Some think this creature is smoldering because it is on fire. In truth it’s because of its burning gaze.
The phoenix requires one item from the Cataclysm Timewalking event so remains an elusive pet as this particular version only happens a few times a year. The first thing you need to procure is the talisman. (see video guide)
- Phoenix Ash Talisman requires the
- Glittering Phoenix Ember – guaranteed drop from the raid boss Alysrazor in Firelands (Timewalking only)
- 10x Sacred Phoenix Ash from the cookpots in the Spires of Arak
- 20x Inert Phoenix Ash – dropped from Scorching Elementals in Un’Goro Crater. The drop rate on this is ridiculous.
The talisman can be purchased from Zektar (52, 52) at the Nest of the Ravenspeakers in the Spires of Arak. If you can’t see the NPC, you will need to complete The High Ravenspeaker quest offered by Iktis of the Flock, an Arakkoa located in Gnarlwood Pass.
Once you have the talisman, pick up the quest from Tarjin The Blind (16, 62) who is located on the mountain behind the Obsidian Citadel in The Waking Shores. He will ask you for a couple more items before he rewards you with the pet.
- 15x Smoldering Phoenix Ash – dropped by phoenix mobs in The Waking Shores
- 20x Ash Feather – purchase the Ash Feather Amulet from Griftah located at the Obsidian Throne to see the feathers. You don’t need to kill any phoenixes unless you haven’t collected the ash above. I found mine ~ 38, 67 at the Burning Ascent in The Waking Shores but continued to see them when I went to collect the other items while the buff was still active.
Tobias
With a nose for secrets, Tobias is ready to be by the side of super sleuths.
This little cutie comes from the Community Rumor Mill achievement during the Secrets of Azeroth treasure-hunting event using rumours from around the World of Warcraft community. Although there are 17 satchels, you only need to find 10 to complete the achievement.
Gizmo the Pure
In life, Gizmo never hurt a soul. Having been brutally murdered, he now considers violence.
Gizmo the Pure comes from solving The Loud and Smelly Case, the third part of the Assistant to the Assistant Guest Relations Manager achievement during WoW’s 20th Anniversary event. The initial quest leads you to Riko who gives you the follow-up quest The Case of the Fur-Getting Wikket, which rewards 5 Bronze Celebration Tokens.
