The Dragonscale Expedition is the archaeology revamp we’ve all been waiting for. As one of the main factions in Dragonflight, this was the one I was most excited about.

A joint expedition of the Explorer’s League and Reliquary, this fearless group of adventurers, scholars, and crafters seek to uncover the many mysteries of the Dragon Isles.

Dragonscale Basecamp

The Dragonscale Expedition has set up temporary headquarters on the south side of The Waking Shores. As you progress through the ranks, you’ll be able to unlock more items that help you find more treasure, unlock magic-bound chests and power up an ancient travel network. These quality-of-life changes can be purchased from Pathfinder Jeb in Dragonscale Basecamp.

Reputation

There are several ways to earn reputation in the Dragon Isles.

  • Campaign quests and side quests scattered throughout the zones
  • Dragon Isles Artifact (15 rep) looted from Expedition Scout Packs from renown 2
  • Waking Shores dungeons – 750 rep each
  • Dragonscale Expedition Flag (300 rep each) at renown 6 (see video for all locations)
  • World Quests, Weekly Bounties and various Aiding the Accord Quests

Renown

You will need 2500 reputation for each level of renown. It won’t take long to unlock the temporary headquarters at the southern end of The Waking Shores. By the time you hit 70, you should have ~ 5 renown just from completing the campaign quests related to the Dragonscale Expedition, any side quests mostly in The Waking Shores but there are a few questlines in other zones including the Ruins of Karnthar storyline that starts in Camp Nowhere, The Azure Span.

At renown 2, you can unlock the Expedition Scout Packs which are abundant and not limited to The Waking Shores. They often contain a Dragon Isles Artifact (each worth 15 rep), a steady source of Dragon Isles Supplies (the main currency in Dragonflight), the odd cosmetic items and vendor trash that sells for a nice sum of gold. The reputation tokens can be handed in to Cataloger Jakes located inside the main tent in Dragonscale Basecamp.

4 Dragonscale Expedition Cloaks You may acquire cosmetic Dragonscale Expedition Cloaks from Pathfinder Jeb at the Dragonscale Expedition Basecamp.
5 Blacksmithing Plans I: Tool Purchase the Plans: Sturdy Expedition Shovel in the Dragonscale Basecamp from Boss Magor.
5 Buried Treasures You may use your Expedition Shovel to find and dig through Disturbed Dirt mounds. A Sturdy Expedition Shovel can be purchased from Pathfinder Jeb at the Dragonscale Expedition Basecamp.

25 A Heroic Reward Speak to Unatos in Valdrakken to receive a Primal Infusion. This can be used as an optional reagent to increase a crafted item’s level to 395 or higher.
25 Skitterflying You may acquire two skitterfly mounts (Tamed Skitterfly, Azure Skitterfly) from Granpap Whiskers at the Dragonscale Basecamp.

There’s a heap of fun achievements to collect. Mainly from all the climbing and cataloguing world quests in each of the zones.

  • Well Supplied – Unlock every talent in the Expedition Supplies tree.
  • A True Explorer – Reach Renown level 25 with the Dragonscale Expedition.

Climbing Quests

  • Which Knot Was It Again? – Unlock climbing World Quests with the Dragonscale Expedition.
  • Lead Climber – Complete 10 climbing World Quests.
  • Isle Ascender – Complete a climbing World Quest in each of the Dragon Isle Zones.
  • Belay On! – Use the Buddy System 10 times during climbing World Quests.
  • How Did These Get Here? – Collect 10 Lost Supplies during climbing World Quests.
  • The Gentleman Elemental – Acquire assistance from Rupert, the Gentleman Elemental 30 times during climbing World Quests.
  • Toe Tension – Avoid 50 hazards using the Spiked Cleats during climbing World Quests.

Cataloging Quests

At renown 5, you start getting weekly bounty quests. They reward 250 reputation while the two dungeon quests reward 300 each. Some are listed below.

Mastering the Waygates

Unlock all of the Ancient Waygate locations in the Dragon Isles.

Complete the Bonds Renewed storyline starting with Dormant Discovery at renown 7. The remaining waygates are unlocked at 8,10,15,17, 20 and 23.

Treasure Hunting

Buried Treasures are similar to dig sites where a number of Disturbed Dirt mounds are clustered around a small area. You’ll need to purchase some Small Expedition Shovels to dig these up so make sure you have a stack of these on hand. At renown 7, you’ll be able to research the anomaly detection spell framework under the Advanced Expedition Tools.

World Quests

Once you’ve unlocked world quests, you’ll have some fun ways to earn extra rep so those photography and climbing skills should come in handy.

The climbing quests are some of the more enjoyable world quests in this expansion whether you’re excavating dragon bones, releasing some time-lost kittens, or rescuing a monkey – my personal favourite! ;P

Cataloging-the-AzureSpan

Cataloging quests are pretty much the same in each zone. Most of the time you’ll be travelling on a raft but occasionally you’ll get to travel in a hot air balloon. At first, you’ll only get three shots before you need to reload your camera so you may need to take the same trip more than once to complete the world quest. Eventually, you’ll be able to see rarer creatures by researching extra talents in your Expedition Supply Kit making it a lot easier to fill your bar and may even snap a legendary NPC for a couple of achievements.
