OMG! Guys? Have you seen the new rewards coming to the Recruit A Friend (RAF) program? They only removed it a few months ago but I can now see that the set includes a friggin’ backpack! I just wish they were rewarded another way but more on that later. The pieces remind me of my original archaeology set, way before I finally collected the Foreman’s Vest from an unexpected source.
Feel free to check out my other featured professions in WoW. I was over the moon when they added another torch back in Mists of Pandaria. Over time, my set slowly developed into something more suitable for running around the desert, unearthing ancient relics to what you now see in Overlook Ruins.
WHAT’S NEW?
The new-and-improved RAF program retains some features and introduces a heap of new rewards — because Azeroth is best experienced with friends at your side. Just like the previous program, you can teleport to one another with Friend-to-Friend Summoning (which works on a 30-minute cooldown) and receive 50% bonus experience when partied together.
Let’s be real though. More players will probably recruit themselves, especially with many returning for Classic already.
MORE RECRUITS, MORE REWARDS
The new program allows you to be linked with up to 10 friends and earns game time and other unique rewards — like a pet, mounts, and more — the longer they play.
Players new to WoW and veteran players who haven’t purchased game time on their account in the past two years can be enlisted in this program. Each time one of your recruits adds game time to their account, you’ll earn progress toward a new reward.
The more friends you invite, the faster you’ll earn the rewards, as one friend adding multiple months of game time earns the same rewards as multiple friends adding one month of game time each. See all the rewards you can get below!*
Rikki – 1 mth | Game Time – 2 mths | Explorer’s Dunetrekker – 3 mths |
Title: Renowned Explorer %s – 4 mths | Game Time – 5 mths | Illusion: Stinging Sands – 6 mths |
Renowned Explorer’s Tabard – 7 mths | Game Time – 8 mths | Explorer’s Jungle Hopper – 9 mths |
Renowned Explorer’s Rucksack – 10 mths | Game Time – 11 mths | Renowned Explorer’s Attire – 12 mths |
GAME TIME
Every 3 months after your 12-month reward, you’ll get a game time reward.
ADVENTURE AWAITS
When you’re ready to bring your friends to Azeroth, simply log into WoW and generate an invite link through the Recruit A Friend interface, then send that link to your friends. Up to four friends can use it to link their accounts to yours. To recruit more friends, you’ll need to generate a new link, which you can do once every 30 days.
Can’t wait? It is possible to get all twelve rewards immediately if you have 3 active accounts and use a different RAF link for four additional subscriptions.
I just used the same link and selected my four old subs used for the last set of pet rewards since I’m in no rush to get all the rewards at once.
*In-game rewards are available to use in World of Warcraft, but not in World of Warcraft Classic. Free game time earned through Recruit A Friend provides access to both World of Warcraft and WoW Classic.

So am I happy about collecting stuff this way? Well, no. To be honest, it’s pretty depressing and a huge ask expecting people to pay for TWO subs just to collect some pixelated goodies. I still wish this was part of some epic archaeology questline or better still – a meta-achievement slowly unlocked over the next twelve months. How cool would that be?! Imagine the story leading you into the next expansion!
This was such a HUGE missed opportunity to breathe some life or excitement into a secondary profession that’s been lacking lately. At least in Legion, we had a new storyline every couple of weeks, until you completed the achievement and never gave the profession another thought – until BfA anyway.
At least it’s not locked behind any dungeon, mythic or raiding requirements so it is doable – if you’re willing to spend an extra year’s worth of game time, that is… (or have new/old friends willing to come back for a while).
Are you excited by any of this and possibly the more relevant question… who’s planning to recruit themselves again?
