The Dragons of Nightmare were Ysera’s most trusted lieutenants – Lethon, Emeriss, Ysondre and Taerar, all warped by a dark power within the Emerald Dream. These wayward sentinels had passed through the Great Trees into Azeroth and intended to spread madness and terror throughout the mortal kingdoms.
Emeriss
The mysterious dark power within the Emerald Dream had transformed the once-majestic Emeriss into a rotting, diseased monstrosity. Reports from the few who had survived encounters with the dragon had told horrifying tales of putrid mushrooms erupting from the corpses of their dead companions. Emeriss was truly the most gruesome and appalling of Ysera’s estranged green dragons.
Lethon
Lethon’s exposure to the aberration within the Emerald Dream not only darkened the hue of the mighty dragon’s scales, but also empowered him with the ability to extract malevolent shades from his enemies. Once joined with their master, the shades imbue the dragon with healing energies. It should come as no surprise then that Lethon was considered to be among the most formidable of Ysera’s wayward lieutenants.
Taerar
Taerar was perhaps the most affected of Ysera’s rogue lieutenants. His interaction with the dark force within the Emerald Dream shattered Taerar’s sanity as well as his corporeal form. The dragon existed as a specter with the ability to split into multiple entities, each of which possessed destructive magical powers. Taerar was a cunning and relentless foe who was intent on turning the madness of his existence into reality for the inhabitants of Azeroth.
Ysondre
Ysondre had gone rogue, sowing terror and chaos across the land of Azeroth. Her formerly beneficial healing powers had given way to dark magics, enabling her to cast smoldering lightning and summon the crazed spirits of druids trapped within the Emerald Dream to aid her. Twisted and insane, Ysondre was bent on unleashing vengeance upon the mortal world as if Azeroth were the force behind the Emerald Dream’s corruption.
All four dragons were raid-level world spawns located in Duskwood (Twilight Grove), the Hinterlands (Seradane), Feralas (Dream Bough), and Ashenvale (Bough Shadow) with some being more challenging than others. They all guarded a portal which led to the Emerald Dream but no access to the Emerald dream was implemented in-game.
They all shared the Sleep (summoning “Dream Fog”), Noxious Breath, Tail Sweep, Mark of Nature and Aura of Nature abilities. Each dragon also had a few unique abilities. One of these was considered the dragon’s signature move, and would perform these moves when the dragon lost 25% of its heath i.e. 25%, 50%, and 75% life. At this time, the dragons would also yell something. They all dropped some nice loot including nature resist gear. These dream dragons were removed from the game in Patch 4.0.3.

It makes me wonder if a future x-pac would include the Emerald Dream. Wouldn’t that be interesting? It would be like a whole new game, almost like playing WoW for the first time. I just wish they could take away some of the functionality they’ve added over the years, like making quest items sparkle. At least let us turn off ezy-mode. Hmm, there may be another post here…
Great post Cymre! Very enjoyable read (imo). What a nostalgia trip! love the pictures.
I have been talking about and hoping for an Emerald Dream Expansion ever since Wrath came out. Possibly after Mist of Pandiara hits Blizzard might entertain exploring this vast wealth of material to draw from.
Your post matched and is a great lead into another great post by a fellow Druid. If you have not read Tzufit’s from Tree Heals Go Woosh, i highly recommend http://treehealsgowoosh.wordpress.com/2011/12/26/shared-topic-build-your-own-legendary/
This alone is enough to cause me to buy an Emerald Dream Expansion to play through this Legendary Druid quest line.
On A Druid’s Doodling, within the Saga I plan on using and building off of a lot of influences from the Emerald Dream. Really need to reread Stormrage the novel since it delves into the Emerald Dream quiet a bit. Although Blizzard has said that outside resources are not the Cannon of WoW story lines or history, there has been a growing push to tell the tale a little more then the quests or encounters can currently within the game.
Great Post keep it going.
This!
I agree, I would LOVE to see an expansion, or at least a raiding tier, devoted to the Emerald Dream. They spent SO LONG talking about the Nightmare and laying hints, the story cannot be over because a book was released. How anti-climatic! :(

I miss them, always loved to watch their awsomeness and take screenshots. Also, on winter’s veil they used to drop the hats. I have screenshots of Lethon.
It needs to be an expansion, as i love the story to the emerald dream. Would be neat too, a druid playing the questline i think. :D
Thanks for the replies everyone. :D
I’m glad to see there’s been so much interest in my Dragon Lore posts so far. There’s so much detail to all of the Aspects it was hard at first to decide how much detail to go into. I ended up focusing on more recent events though.
